A/Prof Jasneek Chawla

Paediatric Sleep Health Specialist, President of the Australasian Sleep Association

A/Professor Jasneek Chawla is a Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist at Queensland Children’s Hospital, Brisbane and leads the Kids Sleep Research Group at the Child Health Research Centre, University of Queensland. Her research interests include sleep in children with complex disability conditions and developing novel diagnostic tools for children within sleep medicine. Jas is currently president elect for the Australasian Sleep Association. She is a strong advocate for children with disability and chronic illness, collaborating widely with many consumer representative organisations and individuals with lived experience through her research.

Prof Christopher Gordon

Prof Christopher Gordon

Expert in Sleep Research and Digital Health

Christopher Gordon is a Professor of Sleep Health at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, Macquarie University and the Research Leader of Insomnia and Chronobiology in the Sleep and Circadian Research Group at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. He is a teaching and research academic with an extensive research program. Christopher has a background in clinical nursing and been an academic for over 20 years holding several senior teaching leadership positions.

At the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research he leads a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians in the Insomnia and Chronobiology research program. His research focuses of the investigation of pathophysiological mechanisms of insomnia and sleep disturbance, conducting clinical trials in insomnia patients with an emphasis on digital therapeutics.

A/Prof Melinda Jackson

Sleep Psychologist, Sleep Researcher and Neuroscientist

Dr Melinda Jackson is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences at Monash University. She is a registered Psychologist, specialising in the treatment of sleep disorders. Dr Jackson is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Breathing and Sleep, Austin Health. The main focus of her research is to explore the impact of sleep loss and sleep disorders on components of cognition, mood and brain health. Through this research she aims to demonstrate the positive impact of treating sleep disorders and improving overall sleep health on cognition and wellbeing.

Dr Aaron Schokman

Dr Aaron Schokman

Researcher and advocate with lived experience of narcolepsy

Dr Aaron Schokman is a lived experience Research Fellow at The University of Sydney. He is currently affiliated with the Central Clinical School, Charles Perkins Centre and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course. Aaron was diagnosed with narcolepsy type 1, a rare and debilitating sleep disorder in his late teens that sparked his interest in research, co-design and all things sleep.

Samantha bramich

Samantha Bramich (facilitator)

Sleep Scientist and Researcher

Samantha Bramich is a PhD candidate at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre and a sleep scientist at the Launceston General Hospital. Her doctoral research is investigating isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder (iRBD); a rare sleep disorder which has been linked to the development of Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. She has received several successful grants to fund her research into the prevalence and profiles of iRBD in Tasmania, and was awarded the Emeritus Professor Lloyd and Ann Smythe Prize in Dementia Studies in 2024.
