When Do We Move The Clocks Forward?
At the beginning of daylight saving on Sunday, 4 October 2020 for those of us living in NSW, VIC, SA, Tasmania and the ACT the clocks will be put forward one hour at 2am, meaning we will forgo an hour of sleep in our night. The term spring forward is used in many countries so we remember to put our clocks forward one hour. Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later on 4 October 2020 than the day before. There will be less light in the morning.
Moving our clocks can disrupt our sleep patterns. In general, "losing" an hour in the Spring is more difficult to adjust to than "gaining" an hour in the Autumn when we move the clocks back one hour. Our internal body clock or 24 hour circadian rhythm will have to adjust to the time shift. Although most people will do this without any problem, we do need to be aware that there is an increased chance of sleepiness while the body adjusts to the new timeframe.
While it can take up to a week to feel back to normal after the beginning of Daylight Saving Time in October, in April it usually takes only one night.
