Recently, Sleep Health Foundation CEO, Dr Moira Junge, shared an article with the Australian Health and Aged Care Resource Guide.
The article explores that, while changes in sleep patterns are common with age, ongoing sleep difficulties are not inevitable and can impact health and wellbeing. It highlights causes such as shifts in circadian rhythm, health conditions, medications, and mental health issues.
In the article, Dr Moira Junge recommends practical strategies like keeping a consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, limiting naps, increasing daylight exposure, exercising, and minimizing stimulants.
Support from caregivers and home care providers is also important to help older adults achieve better, more restful sleep.
