The Sleep Health Foundation and Australasian Sleep Association have lodged a joint 2026–27 Pre‑Budget Submission calling for a national sleep health awareness campaign, Debunking the myths about sleep: Helping Australians to check, choose, snooze for better sleep health.

The submission urges the Australian Government to make sleep a national health priority by funding a coordinated five‑year campaign that provides clear, evidence‑based information about healthy sleep and sleep disorders, and counters the rise of misinformation and unregulated sleep products.

Building on the Government’s response to the 2019 Parliamentary Inquiry into Sleep Health Awareness and the policy evidence review Sleep: a core pillar of health and wellbeing, the proposed campaign would align with the National Preventive Health Strategy and complement existing clinical education and pathways through:

  • A national media and digital campaign,
  • Community and priority-population engagement,
  • Workplace and school resources,
  • Website development,
  • An expanded annual household sleep survey, and
  • Robust evaluation.
